Clipped at the End

STANFORD, Calif. – Opening its final home weekend in the regular season, Stanford men's basketball dropped a tightly-contested battle to Washington State, 67-63, on Thursday night at Maples Pavilion.

Brandon Angel led the Cardinal with 17 points and tied a career-best with four made 3-pointers, while Harrison Ingram pitched in 15 points with three made triples. Maxime Raynaud and Michael Jones scored 10 points each, while Raynaud had a team-leading seven rebounds. Ingram and Michael O'Connell each dished a game-best five assists.

Stanford, which entered the night leading the Pac-12 in 3-point percentage in conference play, went 8-for-20 from beyond the arc.

The Cardinal led by four points at the 11-minute mark, 16-12, with six different players scoring a field goal to earn the early advantage. The Cougars made a trio of 3-pointers over the final minutes of the first half, and despite two late baskets from Raynaud, led by two at the break.

Washington State built an eight-point led with 16:18 to play, but Michael Jones responded with a four-point play, and he was subsequently fouled on a 3-pointer less than 30 seconds later to cut the score to one possession. Back to back baskets from Ingram tied the score at 55, while a late Brandon Angel dunk kept the score level at 63-63 with 2:51 to go. The Cardinal could not find a basket in the closing minute, with multiple efforts missing the mark as the buzzer sounded.

Stanford will honor its senior class on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. against Washington. The game will be broadcast on FS1.
