STANFORD, Calif. – On an afternoon where the Cardinal honored its senior class, Stanford men's basketball sprinted past Washington, 81-69, on Sunday afternoon at Maples Pavilion.
Spencer Jones scored a game-high 21 points with four made 3-pointers – his fourth game this season of at least 20 points – to go with five rebounds and two steals. Maxime Raynaud tallied 15 points, while Brandon Angel pitched in 14 points with a team-leading seven rebounds. Harrison Ingram filled the box score with 11 points, six boards and six assists, while Michael Jones was the fifth player in double figures with 10.
Michael O'Connell dished a career-best 12 assists, marking Stanford's best total since Mitch Johnson had 16 in 2008 against Marquette. O'Connell's 12 dimes are tied for the most in the Pac-12 this season, and leads the conference in Pac-12 games. He moves into a tie for seventh on Stanford's single-game record list, alongside Brevin Knight, Terry Taylor and Keith Ramee.
Stanford tallied assists on 25 of its 29 baskets, which is Stanford's most in a game since November 9, 2007 against Harvard, and its most in a conference game since Jan. 4, 2004 against Washington.
The Cardinal sunk 12 3-pointers on 24 attempts which marked the third time this season Stanford had at least 12 makes from downtown. Stanford improves to 10-6 this season when making at least 35 percent of its 3-point attempts and 3-0 when it hits 50 percent or more.
Stanford jumped out to an 8-0 lead, led by five points from Ingram, and led by 11 in the opening period, 21-10, after consecutive makes from Isa Silva. The lead reached its peak at the end of the half, with Spencer Jones making a three to send the Cardinal to the intermission leading 38-26.
The Huskies whittled the advantage down to five with 15:37 to go, but the Cardinal immediately responded with a 15-5 run to push it to a 15-point game. Raynaud scored seven straight for Stanford later in the period, helping Stanford cement its win.
The Cardinal returns to action on Thursday, March 2 at Oregon State. The 6 p.m. tip will air on Pac-12 Networks.
