Big Win Over Big Red

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 17 Cardinal defeated Cornell on Monday afternoon in Cagan Stadium by a score of 17-12. It marked Stanford's second win of the season as it improved to 2-2 and handed Cornell its first loss of the season, moving the Big Red to 3-1.

In the first matchup between the two schools since 2015, Stanford added a big win in the all-time series record. The Cardinal is now 4-7 all-time against Cornell.

Stanford's offense came out firing to begin the day, netting the first three goals of the contest. The Cardinal jumped in front at the 12:27 mark in the first quarter thanks to an opening goal from Annabel Frist and never looked back, leading the game the rest of the way.

Along with her opening goal, Frist tallied 10 draw controls, the ninth-most ever in a Stanford lacrosse game.

The Cardinal carried an 8-5 advantage into the locker room at halftime, and pushed the lead to nine midway through the fourth quarter at 17-8.

The two teams were well matched at the draw, with Cornell leading 17-16, and each team turned over the ball 18 times in the game. Stanford, however, recorded seven more saves than Cornell's five, and the Big Red outshot the Cardinal 38-30.

Sarah Jaques led all players with six points, coming from three goals and three assists. Ashley Humphrey joined Jaques at the team-lead for goals with a hat trick of her own.

Five Cardinal recorded at least three points in the game, as Jay Browne, Katy Gilbert, and Kelsey Myers joined Jaques and Humphrey at the three-point mark.

Dani Jacobstein, Rylee Bouvier, and Sophia Brindisi each found the back of the net once during the game. It marked the first goal of the season for both Jacobstein and Brindisi.

Kara Rahaim was a force on defense yet again, recording 12 saves to go against 37 shots faced. She recorded a save percentage of .500 on the day while also tallying three ground balls.

Caroline Mondiello added three more caused turnovers, increasing her lead in the Pac-12 ranks. Her 12 CTs through four games are double that of the next player in the conference.

Stanford returns to action for a neutral site contest on Friday at 4 p.m. against No. 6 Stony Brook in San Diego, California.
