STANFORD, Calif. – The Collegiate Rowing Coaches of America (CRCA) announced 22 Stanford rowers have been named National Scholar-Athletes, excelling both on the water and in the classroom. 14 members of the women's rowing team and eight Cardinal lightweight rowers earned the honor, announced by the coaches association Friday.
In order to qualify for the honor, athletes needed to maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher, be of at least sophomore standing academically, and row in an NCAA or IRA boat for a minimum of 75 percent of the season's races.
Highlighted by victories from its varsity eight and second varsity eight crews, Stanford captured its second NCAA team championship in school history and first since 2009 with a dominant performance at the 2023 NCAA Championships in Pennsauken, N.J.
The Cardinal women's lightweight program finished sixth at the IRA Championships, led by a second-place finish for Stanford in the varsity 8+ and a seventh-place result for the Cardinal in the varsity 4+ race.
