Big Match Returns for Fourth Installment

  • The Big Match returns on Thursday at Menlo Country Club, pitting Stanford against California.
  • This is the second fall event of the season for the Cardinal. Stanford defended its crown at the Carmel Cup on Sept. 1-3, while having another individual champion, with Megha Ganne winning her first collegiate tournament.
  • Ganne had an impressive run during the Carmel Cup en route to her first collegiate tournament win. She finished at least four strokes under par in every round, including a 6-under 66 in the first round. Her 201 (-15) was the lowest tournament score of her career. Ganne followed Rose Zhang, who won the Carmel Cup in 2022.
  • Stanford has not been inactive since the first week of September. The Cardinal spent Sept. 10-17 abroad in Scotland during their foreign tour.
  • The annual Big Match is in its fourth installment after beginning in 2018. The event was not held in  2020 or 2021.
  • The Cardinal earned its first win in the Big Match last year after earning a 4-2 victory over California.
  • Pairings for Stanford are as follows: Sadie Englemann/Sean-Karl Dobson, Paula Martin Sampedro/Kush Arora, Yu Wen Lu/Ethan Gao, Caroline Sturdza/Barclay Brown, Kelly Xu/Jake Beber-Frankel, Megha Ganne/Dean Greyserman, Rachel Heck/Karl Vilips. Order is to be determined.
  • This event features a seven-match, mixed-gender, best-ball match play format.
