Cardinal Battles to Draw, Remains Unbeaten

STANFORD, Calif. – After surrendering a goal in the sixth minute, No. 2 Stanford (12-0-2, 5-0-1 Pac-12) equalized in the 48th minute to eventually settle for a 1-1 draw with Washington (6-5-3, 1-4-1 Pac-12) on Saturday night from Cagan Stadium.

The Cardinal had numerous chances to earn the victory, posting a 31-5 advantage in shots – including hitting the crossbar on two occasions and the post on a third. The first of the crossbar misses came on penalty kick from Maya Doms in the 31st minute following a handball in the box.

Taking advantage of its only real opportunity to score, Washington's Kelsey Branson netted her third goal of the season to put the Huskies up early after the first five minutes.

Andrea Kitahata nearly equalized in the 22nd minute when she curled a right-footed shot that careened off the right post and out of danger.

Stanford finished the first half with a 13-3 advantage in shots, but went into the break trailing by a goal.

The Cardinal finally broke through early in the second half as Kitahata delivered a shot that was initially knocked down by Washington goalkeeper Olivia Juarez only to have Allie Montoya pounce on the rebound and tap it home for her first of the season. The goal was Montoya's first since scoring twice vs. Washington on October 6, 2022.

Stanford's final near miss came in the 80th minute as Doms rifled a shot from distance that hit off the crossbar.

Facing the onslaught of Cardinal shots, Juarez finished the match with 12 saves – including nine in the second half.

Ryan Campbell conceded the one goal while finishing with two saves.

The Cardinal will return to action on Thursday when it hosts Oregon State at 7 p.m.
