FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Torri Huske led No. 3 Stanford to two Pac-12 titles in both the 50 free and 200 free relay on day two of the Pac-12 Championships. After today, the Cardinal have more than an 80 point lead in the championships at 540.
To start off the day, ten Cardinal swimmers qualified for the A finals in the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free, with 18 total qualifying for a final after the preliminaries.
Four Stanford swimmers qualified for the A final of the 500 free with Morgan Tankersley taking the silver at 4:38.36. Aurora Roghair placed fourth at 4:39.77 and Kayla Wilson (4:42.78) came in seventh, followed by Natalie Mannion (4:43.27) in eighth. Sophomore Lillie Nordmann finished 14th overall in the 500 at 4:44.21 and Sophie Duncan rounded out the group going 4:47.84 in 19th.
Lucy Bell led the pack in the 200 IM, coming in fifth at a 1:56.64. Charlotte Hooke (1:57.49) and Gigi Johnson (2:00.08) wrapped up the A final in seventh and eighth respectively. Janelle Rudolph placed 16th at 2:00.87.
Huske picked up her fourth career individual Pac-12 title in the 50 free with a 21.67, followed by Taylor Ruck only .20 behind her. Amy Tang swam a season high 22.33 to finish seventh. Senior Emma Wheal came in 10th at 22.52 with Anna Shaw closing out the B final at 22.71.
The Cardinal defended their 2022 title in the 200 free relay at 1:25.98 with a team made up of three of the finalists in the 50 free. Claire Curzan led off for Stanford, taking an early lead, which Huske, Ruck and Tang all extended upon. The B team also got off to a quick start, coming in first in the B final at 1:30.06, which would have placed sixth in the overall final.
In the diving well, Lauren Burch qualified for the final, with Julia Wortman making the consolation final. Burch finished sixth at 290.95 and Wortman placed 14th with a score of 248.60.
The Pac 12 Championships will continue tomorrow with the divers on the 3-meter and the swimmers racing the 400 Im, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 400 medley relay.
