Best of Both Worlds

STANFORD, Calif. – Redshirt senior Shane Griffith has been selected the Pac-12 Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced today.

The award, which is presented in each of the 24 sports the Pac-12 sponsors, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.

A native of Westwood, New Jersey, Griffith graduated in 2021 with a 3.61 cumulative GPA in science, technology and society. He will complete his master's degree in communication this spring. He is a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American, a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and a three-time Pac-12 Honor Roll selection.

A 2021 NCAA champion at 165 pounds, Griffith is a two-time Pac-12 Wrestler of the Year, a three-time All-American and was named the NCAA Championships Most Outstanding Wrestler in 2021. He was also a Pac-12 Champion and Co-Most Outstanding Wrestler in 2020 helping him garner Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year honors. A conference record five-time Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week, he boasts an 81-8 career record and is 9-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

A team captain, Griffith is the eighth Cardinal to be named Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year since the awards inception in 2007-08. He joins Tanner Gardner (2008), Jake Johnson (2010), Nick Amuchastegui (2012), Peter Galli (2017), Nathan Butler (2018), Paul Fox (2019) and Nathan Traxler (2021) as Stanford recipients.
