Card Falls in Defensive Battle

LOS ANGELES - Stanford fell on Sunday afternoon to No. 21 USC, 10-7. It snapped a three-game win streak for the Cardinal and a four-game win streak against USC dating back to April of 2021.

The Cardinal moves to 7-6 and 5-2 in the Pac-12, while the Trojans improve to 11-3 and 6-1 in conference play.

The game was tight throughout the game, with each team tying the score and earning leads during each of the first three periods. Annabel Frist got the scoring started, and scored each of the first two Stanford goals as the visitors led 2-1 after the first quarter.

Frist went on to add a third goal from a free position shot later in the game moving her into first place with 43 goals in the Pac-12. She recorded an assist as well for four points, the most of any Cardinal.

Sarah Jaques and Jay Browne each recorded two points coming from a goal and assist each. Liana McDonnell and Peep Williams found the back of the net as well, with Williams' goal coming from a highlight reel behind-the-back finish.

Kara Rahaim recorded nine saves on the day, her seventh game this season with at least nine saves. She leads the conference in total saves, now at 118.

The Cardinal defense held USC to just 10 goals, only the fourth time this season they've scored 10 goals or less.

Stanford held a slim advantage on the draw control, grabbing 11 compared to USC's 10. Annabel Frist and Katie McMahon shouldered the effort, each corralling three.

The Cardinal closes out the nonconference schedule next week, facing No. 3 Denver in Colorado.
