HEALTH-PERMITTING, Stanford is guaranteed to have at least one alum in the Super Bowl, with four on rosters of three teams going the conference championship round.
Here is a summary of performances from Cardinal alums around the league in the divisional round last weekend:
San Francisco starting running back Christian McCaffrey scored two touchdowns, including the winner with 1:07 left, to give the 49ers a 24-21 victory over visiting Green Bay on Saturday. McCaffrey, the NFL rushing champion, ran 39 yards – the 49ers' longest play of the game -- to give them a 14-13 third-quarter lead and ran six yards for the decisive points.
McCaffrey carried 17 times to gain 98 of San Francisco's 111 rushing yards and caught a team-high seven passes for 30. McCaffrey played 63 (98 percent) of the 49ers' offensive snaps.
Linebacker Curtis Robinson was on the 49ers' practice squad and did not play.
Houston tight end Dalton Schultz caught five passes for 43 yards in the Texans' 34-10 loss at Baltimore on Saturday. His 21-yard reception on a pass from C.J. Stroud helped set up a field goal that tied the game, 3-3, late in the first quarter. Schultz played 41 (84 percent) of Houston's offensive snaps.
Houston quarterback Davis Mills did not play.
Kansas City starting free safety Justin Reid had 11 tackles, including eight solo, in the Chiefs' 27-24 victory at Buffalo on Sunday. Reid also had a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit. Reid played 75 (97 percent) of the Chiefs' defensive snaps and five special teams downs. His 11 tackles were a single-game high and the fourth most in the NFL during the divisional round.
Tight end Zach Ertz has agreed to a contract with Detroit in the wake of an injury to tight end Brock Wright Sunday in a 31-23 victory over visiting Tampa Bay. Ertz is expected to be signed to the practice squad and activated in time for the NFC Championship against the 49ers.
