STANFORD, Calif. – Despite matching its season-best team total, Stanford women's gymnastics was edged by No. 20 Arizona State Friday night, falling 196.975-196.875 inside Maples Pavilion.

The Cardinal's performance was fueled by a season-best vault rotation, scoring a team total of 49.200, and the program's first meet in the 2024 season with all team event scores passing the 49.000 threshold. Fifth year Chloe Widner won a share of the bars title with a season-best matching 9.950 while sophomore Porsche Trinidad earned a part of the beam title with her career-best score of 9.925.

Arizona State's strong beam rotation won them the meet, as the Sun Devils trailed the Cardinal by .050 going into the final event of the evening. ASU's Jada Mangaha earned the all-around title with a total of 39.450.

Stanford started hot on vault, led by a career-best tying vault score of 9.900 from Taralyn Nguyen in the anchor position and a career-best performance of 9.825 from senior Amanda Zeng. Junior Brenna Neault also matched her career-best effort, scoring a 9.875. Junior Anapaula Gutierrez added a 9.825 and Claire Dean started the rotation with a 9.775.

The Cardinal then turned to bars, earning its meet-best event total of 49.350 led by Widner's title-winning routine. Junior Brenna Neault anchored with a season-best 9.900 while Gutierrez added a 9.875. Dean kick-started the success on bars with a 9.800 in the first position and senior Ira Alexeeva rounded out the scoring routines with a 9.825.

The third rotation of the evening was on beam, where Stanford was guided by Trinidad's third career-best effort in so many meets. Alexeeva added a 9.850, Dean and freshman Sienna Robinson posted scores of 9.800 and sophomore Ashley Carter totaled a career-best 9.775.

Stanford ended the night on floor, where a season debut from Alexeeva and a strong performance from Nguyen spearheaded the Cardinal's 49.175 team score.  Both earned scores of 9.875, while Dean posted a 9.825 and freshmen Temple Landry added a 9.800. In her debut on floor, freshman Victoria Cluck recorded a 9.800 to finish off the Cardinal's scoring efforts.

After two home meets, the Cardinal now heads on the road for its next two meets, taking on No. 18 Oregon State in Corvallis Feb. 17 and No. 4 Utah in Salt Lake City on Feb. 23.
