Husky Classic results Opens in a new window

SEATTLE – Ky Robinson added to his list of stunning performances at Stanford, running the second-fastest indoor 3,000 meters in collegiate history for all conditions on Friday.

In a final-lap duel with Northern Arizona's Aaron Las Heras at the Husky Classic, Robinson swung into the lead on the final turn to win in 7:36.69. Besides being a meet and Dempsey Indoor facility record, the time makes Robinson the fastest collegian in the nation this year and places him at No. 6 all-time in Australia for that distance, including indoors and outdoors.

Robinson shattered his own school record of 7:42.30 that he set on the same 307-meter flat track last year at the Ken Shannon Invitational. The only faster collegiate indoor time in history is 7:36.42 by Northern Arizona's Drew Bosley last year. Four runners finished under 7:40.

Robinson, a two-time NCAA outdoor champion, has broken school records four times.

Another Stanford indoor distance-record fell, this one by Lucy Jenks in the women's 5,000. Jenks ran 15:33.98 to finish as the top collegian and third overall. The time placed Jenks No. 9 on the NCAA Division I season list and in prime contention for an NCAA Championships berth.

Jenks broke the Stanford record of 15:35.77 set at the same meet on the same track in 2019 by Fiona O'Keeffe, who last weekend won the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.

In the same race, Sophia Kennedy broke a Stanford freshmen record. Kennedy placed ninth in 15:43.05, edging a school absolute frosh record of 15:43.31 by Laurynne Chetelat in 2009.

It was a night of records for Stanford as Amy Bunnage broke another school frosh mark – this one from 1982. Bunnage was fourth in the 3,000 in 8:54.88, breaking the long-standing frosh absolute mark of 8:57.27 by Ceci Hopp.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Stanford athletes were split between two meets. The distance runners competed at University of Washington and everyone else was at the Don Kirby Invitational at the Albuquerque (N.M.) Convention Center.

Besides the two school records and two freshmen records, there were eight additions or improvements to the school indoor top-10 lists, four freshmen top-5 additions or improvements, and seven personal bests between the two meets.

Stanford sophomore Alyssa Jones won the high jump in Albuquerque at 6-0 ¾ (1.85m), matching a four-year-old personal best and tying her with NCAA heptathlon champion Tracye Lawyer for No. 2 in Stanford indoor history.

Jones opened with a clearance at 5-7 ¼ (1.71m), a height survived by only four competitors. She cleared 5-9 ¼ (1.76m) on her first try, but needed three at 5-10 ½ (1.79m). By that time, it was a two-person competition along with BYU's Cierra Allphin, who took the lead with a first-try clearance of 5-11 ½ (1.82m) to Jones' two.

However, Jones won at 6-0 3/4, clearing on her first try while Allphin failed to clear. Jones, the 2023 NCAA outdoor long-jump runner-up, had the highest jump by a Stanford woman, indoors or outdoors, in 27 years.

The 200 features Cydney Wright and Will Floyd, two Stanford standouts. Wright ran her indoor best of 23.44, moving her up to No. 3 all-time at Stanford indoors. Will Floyd ran 21.17 for No. 5 on the school men's freshmen list. Each placed fifth in the invitational sections.
