LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Stanford gymnasts claimed nine of the 19 U.S. Senior National and Development team spots, as competition at the 2024 Winter Cup came to a close on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinal contingent set to represent Team USA is comprised of five current Stanford gymnasts, four alumni, and one incoming signee from the Class of 2024.
Alumni Riley Loos walked away from the two-day event as the Cardinal's highest all-around finisher, earning the bronze medal with a score of 164.400. The 2023 graduate turned in a consistent effort throughout the weekend, with high-level performances on vault, rings, and floor propelling him to an automatic berth on the U.S. National Team.
Curran Phillips collected a pair of event titles on the weekend, besting the field in both the parallel bars and the high bar. Phillips posted the two highest parallel bar scores of the weekend with a 15.950 routine on day one before besting that performance with a 16.100 score in Sunday's final. On the high bar, a pair of 14.300 routines over the weekend was enough for the Naperville, Illinois native to earn his spot on the top of the podium.
Jeremy Bischoff, Taylor Burkhart, and Brody Malone were each named to the Senior National Team later in the night due to discretionary criteria. Bischoff finished the weekend with the seventh ranked all-around score at 163.000, including a silver medal in the high bar with a weekend score of 27.900. Malone finished with a bronze medal in the parallel bars with a mark of 29.850 as well as a fourth place finish on pommel horse with a 28.200. Burkhart notched a fifth-place finish on high bar to earn his spot on the team.
Asher Hong, Colt Walker, and Khoi Young automatically qualified their spots for this National Team cycle as they were each members of the 2023 World Championships bronze medal team. That trio instead competing at the 2024 MAG Cottbus World Cup this past weekend, lead by Young who reached the parallel bar finals and scored a 14.133 to place sixth. Hong competed in every event but parallel bars, while Walker competed in floor exercise, high bar, parallel bars, and still rings.
Incoming signee Kai Uemura was named to the Senior Development Team following his performance on the weekend, as the former USA Junior National Team member and two-time age group all-around national champion will join University of Michigan sophomore Landen Blixt on the squad.
International assignments for each U.S. Senior National Team member will be announced at a later date. Stanford returns to collegiate competition on March 3 in Berkeley, Calif., against No. 5 Nebraska, No. 8 California, and No. 15 Air Force.
