McFarland Transfers to Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - Reigning Big West player of the Year Dash McFarland is joining the Cardinal, The Dunlevie Family Director of Men's Water Polo Brian Flacks announced today. McFarland scored an astounding 82 goals last season with UC Santa Barbara.

"Dash has not only been one of the best centers in college but also one of the best players," said Flacks. "His decision to come to Stanford is another major step for our program, as we want to attract the best players in the world and consistently compete for a national championship. Dash adds enormous talent and depth to the center position and also high-level experience to help lead our young squad. We can't wait to get him on campus and get to work."

Through three seasons with the Gauchos, the Berkeley native has scored 140 goals. Last season, McFarland scored at least three goals in 17 of 30 games, and recorded six five-plus goal games. His .626 shooting percentage was the best of all Gauchos with 10 or more shots on the season, and he drew a career-best 68 exclusions. His best performance of the season came on Oct. 15, when he scored six times against No. 14 Pacific.

McFarland is a two-time GCC All-Academic Team selection, and joins his younger brother Chase on The Farm.
