STANFORD, Calif. – Cameron Brink was named to The Associated Press All-America first team and Kiki Iriafen was selected All-America honorable mention when the organization announced its awards on Wednesday morning.
It's the latest in a long list of Brink's postseason accolades. Yesterday, the Pac-12 Player and Defensive Player of the Year was named a first-team All-American by both The Sporting News and USBWA, as well as a finalist for Naismith Defensive Player of the Year honors. She was selected a first-team All-American by The Athletic and ESPN earlier this month. Brink was an AP third-team All-American in 2022 and a second teamer in 2023.
Brink is the nation's leading active shot blocker with 406 in her career and recently became the 17th Division I player with 400 career rejections. She leads the country in both total blocks (109) and blocks per game (3.52), and is 19 shy of the Pac-12 record (Ruth Hamblin, Oregon State – 425).
Brink is third nationally in rebounds per game (12.0) and using College Basketball Reference advanced metrics, she tops all DI players in box plus/minus (24.0), win shares per 40 minutes (.435), total rebound percentage (24.7), and block percentage (13.0). Her defensive rating of 69.6 is second.
She is the only player in the country averaging 17.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game this season, numbers that have only been put up for an entire season six times by a major conference player since 1999-2000, most recently Oklahoma State's Natasha Mack in 2020-21. Brink is in the midst of one of the most efficient seasons by a major conference player in available records dating back to 2002-03 and currently leads the nation with a PER of 46.62.
She had a career-high nine assists to go with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinal win over No. 13 Oregon State and currently has 109 blocks and 89 assists this season. Only one other player has had 100 blocks and 100 assists in a single season in available records since 1999-2000. Breanna Stewart did it three times for UConn in 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16.
Brink is also the first college player with 500 points, 300 rebounds and 100 blocks in back-to-back seasons since Stewart (2014-16). When she grabs nine more rebounds, she will join Brittney Griner (Baylor), Courtney Paris (Oklahoma) and Sandora Irvin (TCU), as the only players with 1,800 career points, 1,200 career rebounds and 400 career blocks in the past 25 years.
Third in the league in scoring (18.6) and rebounding (11.0), Iriafen is one of three players in the country averaging 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. She is averaging 20.2 points and 12.2 rebounds in the last 18 games and in nine games against the AP Top 25 this season is averaging 19.3 points and 11.3 rebounds, one of two players in the country averaging 19+ points and 11+ rebounds against the AP Top 25.
The Pac-12 Most Improved Player of the Year has taken a massive leap as a junior and after averaging 6.7 points and 3.8 rebounds as a sophomore, she's putting up 18.6 points (+11.9) and 11.0 rebounds (+7.2) per game this season. Currently, she has the fourth-best year-over-year improvement in the country in scoring average and is first in rebounding average.
Among a number of memorable performances this season, Iriafen scored a career-high 36 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a 65-56 victory over Oregon State on Jan. 21, Tara VanDerveer's record 1,203rd, to become the first Cardinal since Chiney Ogwumike in 2014 with at least 35 points and 10 boards in a game.
There are six major conference players in the country averaging 17.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game, and Stanford is the only school with two. Since 1999-2000, no school has had two players average 17.0 points and 11.0 rebounds for an entire season (minimum 18 games).
Brink (371) and Iriafen (362) are currently fifth and seventh in single-season rebounds in Stanford history. Only Chiney Ogwumike has ever pulled down 400 in a season (466 – 2012-13; 446 – 2013-14).
Brink, Iriafen and the Cardinal are the No. 2 seed in Portland Regional 4 and open the NCAA Tournament at home on Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m. against No. 15-seed Norfolk State.
