Pregame Playlist: Annabel Frist

Every athlete has a go-to playlist that they listen to before they take the field, step on the court, or dive into the pool. In Pregame Playlist we bring Stanford student-athletes' playlists to you! Hear from junior Annabel Frist of Women's Lacrosse, who shares what gets her pumped up as her and Women's Lacrosse are undefeated in Pac-12 play.

GoStanford.com: What's your favorite song on this playlist and why?
Annabel Frist: "My favorite song on this playlist its currently FE!N by Travis Scott. Honestly, I have seen so many highlight videos of other teams/players across the nation to this song recently and they all are so cool. I associate this song now with those dominant performances it hypes me up for games. It helps me visualize what I want to do on the field."

GS: Who are your favorite artists these days?
AF: "It is always hard to choose, but some of my favorite artists these days include Rufus Du Sol, ODESZA, Travis Scott, and Miley Cyrus. Though Miley wasn't included in this playlist, I am a big fan of her recent music and listen to it regularly."

GS: What about this playlist gets you ready for competition?
AF: "All of these songs are upbeat and give me energy when listening to them. I like the beat as much as I do the lyrics, and being able to dance, sing, or just listen to them by myself or with others gets me ready for competition. I have great memories associated with a lot of these songs, and therefore when listening I can tap back into those fun feelings and bring them into my day."

GS: How would you describe your music taste in general?
AF: "My music taste is diverse. I like a lot of different genres - usually going in and out of phase listening to specific types of music rather than constant changes throughout a day. When driving around, I usually put on Taylor Swift, when getting ready for games, I might turn on rap, and when dancing, anything is fair game. I think I can learn to like any type of music, and love asking friends for new songs when my playlists run dry."

GS: Does this playlist different from what you listen to normally? If so, how come?
AF: "This playlist does differ from what I usually listen to because my usual taste has a lot more variety. Like I mentioned earlier, I like a lot of different genres. One specific genre that this playlist doesn't include but I love listening to is country. Some of my favorite artists are Chris Stapleton, Tyler Childers, Zach Bryan, Ryan Bingham, Brothers Osborne, etc."

GS: Any unique stories behind what these songs meant to you or your team?
AF: "A lot of these songs are actually included in our warmup mix that I made my freshman year for our team. I mashed up a lot of the team's favorite songs into a 45-minute to play before games and everyone ended up loving it. You can still listen to it on SoundCloud, and it's fun to sometimes go back and listen just because it reminds me of that season."

GS: How does your music taste compare to the rest of your team's?
AF: "I think my music taste reflects the team's when it comes to game days. Everyone likes these songs because it brings out energy, singing, and dancing. However, individually everyone has a unique music taste and that comes out when people take aux in our locker room before practices. You never really know what is going to come on, but that's the fun of it."

GS: Describe your relationship with music, and how/if that relates to your sport.
AF: "My music taste has evolved a lot over the years. A lot depends on the group of people I am spending the most time with. In terms of sports, my music taste with my basketball team in high school was very different than the golf team. Easy to say that you don't really need to get hyped up for golf the same way you do for basketball. When coming to Stanford for lacrosse, I found a lot of us listened to the same music when it came to competition. A lot of the same songs that were played during warm ups in high school carried over into college. No matter the sport, the group, or the day, I am always looking to expand my music taste and listen to what people have to offer."
