BERKELEY, Calif. – All-America long jumper Alyssa Jones focused on speed at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational track and field meet on Saturday at Edwards Stadium and set a lifetime best in the 100 meters.
The Stanford sophomore is a five-time All-American, with three of those honors coming in the long jump, one in the high jump, and another in the 4x100. On Saturday, she ran the 100 and 200, finishing second in the 100 and third in the 200.
Her 100 time of 11.53, in her first 100 of the year, crushed her three-year-old previous best of 11.67 and placed Jones into a tie at No. 10 on Stanford's all-time list. She is tied with Brittni Dixon-Smith (2011) and Kennedy Gamble (2022).
Jones was among 17 Cardinal to compete at the Brutus Hamilton, including freshman Abbey Moody and junior Kaiah Fisher, who each collected victories in the throws. Moody, of New Zealand, won the javelin in a collegiate personal best of 155-9 (47.47m). Fisher won the women's shot put at 46-1 ¼ (14.05m).
Besides Jones, Stanford athletes to earn personal bests were Madison Romain in the 400 hurdles (ninth, 1:04.80), behind teammate Samantha Thomas (58.61) in second. Also, Teagan Zwaanstra matched her two-year-old lifetime best in the long jump, with a 19-8 (5.99m) for third.
