Strong Start

BETHEL, Ohio - No. 2 Stanford started competition at the 2024 NCAA Championships Friday, earning top finishes in each of its qualifying heats held on Harsha Lake at East Fork State Park Friday morning .

Looking to defend its 2023 NCAA title, the Cardinal advanced all three boats to Saturday's A/B semifinals thanks to compelling victories in each heat race. 

Stanford's varsity eight kicked off the day's racing with a decisive victory in its heat, recording a time of 6:50.372 to top Yale (6:55.875), Washington (6:56.019),  Virginia (7:04.387) and Northeastern (7:14.784).

The second varsity eight kept the day's pace going, crossing the finish line at 7:00.892  to lead a heat that included Princeton (7:06.553), Virginia (7:08.050), Rutgers (7:08.096), Northeastern (7:35.748) and Jacksonville (7:51.360).

The varsity four closed out Friday's action with a first-place effort after spending the first half of the race down to Pac-12 foe Washington, coming back to win with a time of 7:39.324. The Huskies took second (7:44.188) followed by Syracuse (7:55.202), Ohio State (7:57.486) and Gonzaga (8:05.114).

Stanford continues racing on Saturday morning, competing in three AB semifinals with all races streamed live on NCAA.com.
