WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Stanford closed out its men's rowing season with a victory in the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships and a spot in the B final of the regatta's marquee event.
The Second Varsity Eight rowed to a powerful victory in the C final to highlight performances over the three-day competition at Mercer Lake. And it was the First Varsity Eight that completed the season with a sixth place finish in the B final on Sunday.
Overall, Stanford was 14th in the Ten Eyck team standings with 113 points.
With its second-fastest time of the season, the Cardinal 2V8 was clocked in 5:49.189 over the 2,000-meter course and placed 13th in the event, matching its finish of 2023.
With Arthur Scott at stroke and Ben Felter at bow, Stanford took control in the over the third 500. Stanford trailed quick-starting Columbia over the first 500 before taking over the lead before the halfway point with Navy close behind. However, Stanford's effort in the next 500 gave the Cardinal an insurmountable 2.8-second advantage by 1,500. The final margin was 2.4 seconds.
For the third time in four years, Stanford had advanced to the A or B finals in the 1V8. This time, the Cardinal placed 12th overall in the event, rowing to a time of 5:44.434. It was the boat's third-fastest time of the season among 11 races.
Of the Cardinal 1V8, only All-Pac-12 selections Jacopo Mascitelli (stroke) and Travis Senf (No. 3) are seniors. The future looks bright with 11 freshmen between Stanford two Eight boats, and 13 underclassmen out of the 18, including coxswains.
