Road To Paris Continues

Stanford sends eight of the 20 gymnasts competing at this weekend's U.S. Olympic Team Trials

STANFORD, Calif. -  A Cardinal contingent of eight past, present, and future gymnasts look to fulfill their Olympic aspirations this weekend at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Gymnastics Trials in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

20 total men’s gymnasts will be vying for five Team USA spots heading to Paris later this summer. Two traveling and two non-traveling alternates will also be selected following the conclusion of Olympic Trials.

Competition will be held inside Target Center from June 27-30, with live coverage of the men’s action taking place Thursday on USA Network at 3:30 p.m. PT and Saturday on NBC at 12 p.m. PT. All action from the weekend will also be streamed live on Peacock.

Riding the momentum of his third career U.S. all-around title earlier this month, Brody Malone looks to reach the Olympic team for the second consecutive cycle after competing for Team USA at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Malone is also a multiple-time high bar medalist at the World level, winning bronze in 2021 before bringing home the gold in 2022.

2024 NCAA all-around winner Khoi Young is among the group of each of the previous six NCAA all-around champions competing this weekend, as the Bowie, Md., native comes off a third-place finish in the all-around at the most recent U.S. Championships.  Last summer, Young became the first American men’s gymnast since 1979 to win medals in multiple events at a single World Championships, bringing home silver on both vault and pommel horse.

Fellow Stanford gymnasts Asher Hong and Colt Walker are also returning from the 2023 Worlds team that brought home the United States’ first World medal since 2014. Hong comes into the weekend as the 2023 U.S. all-around champion and recently won three event crowns at the 2024 NCAA Championships. Walker, in addition to the World bronze last summer, won the 2023 Pan American gold medal with Team USA and secured individual silver on parallel bars.

Rounding out the Stanford representatives includes 2023 Pan American parallel bars champion Curran Phillips, multiple-time Senior National Team member Jeremy Bischoff, and incoming Cardinal freshman Kiran Mandava and Kai Uemura.

Artistic Gymnastics at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will be held July 27-August 5, as the United States men’s team will look to secure its first Olympic medal since 2008.
