No. 2 Stanford shuts out Washington State

Senior goalkeeper Haley Craig made five saves while facing 11 total shots from former Pac-12 foe Washington State as No. 2 Stanford (5-0) blanked the Cougars (2-2) 2-0 from Cagan Stadium on Sunday.

The clean sheet was Craig’s third of the season, while the five saves are a season best.

Coming out on the attack, Stanford broke the scoreless match with a goal in the seventh minute. The tally, which came just minutes after the Cardinal had a penalty shot blocked, came from sophomore Mia Bhuta. Bhuta received a cross from Allie Montoya and chested it home for her second career goal.

Team Celebration

Stanford starts season off strong

No. 13 Stanford bounced back in a big way, downing Cal State Fullerton 5-0 on Thursday night at Cagan Stadium. It’s the most goals Stanford has scored since a 5-0 victory over San Diego State last November.

The Cardinal improves to 2-1-0 on the season while the Titans fall to 0-3-0.

“Incredibly exciting for the spectators tonight,” said the Knowles Family Director of Men’s Soccer Jeremy Gunn. “Our mandate was ‘we’ve got to ruthlessly pursue scoring goals’ and the issue we had was every player on the pitch took that whole-heartedly.”

The Cardinal opened the scoring early, as Shane de Flores notched his first goal of the season in the 14th minute. He finished off a well-played ball from Fletcher Bank to score the game-winning goal.

Field hockey begins season 2-0

Stanford field hockey opened up the season in decisive fashion on Friday, securing a 4-1 victory over Ohio at Briner Sports Complex. With the win, the Cardinal begins the season 1-0 as it prepares for Sunday's game against Ball State.

Stanford generated offensive pressure early and often against the Bobcats, jumping out to a commanding 3-0 lead at the halftime break, and adding a fourth goal in the third quarter to seal the win.

Stanford delivered another dominant performance on Sunday afternoon, defeating Ball State, 5-0, to sweep the season-opening road trip.

The Cardinal maintained control from start to finish, outshooting Ball State 19-2 and holding an 11-2 advantage in penalty corners. With the victory, Stanford improves to 2-0 on the young season, while Ball State falls to 0-2.
