STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford men's gymnastics head coach Thom Glielmi announced two new additions to the staff on Thursday afternoon, as Carlos Hernandez-Ojeda and Mitchell Soukup will enter the fold ahead of the 2025 season.
Hernandez-Ojeda, a 2022 graduate at Texas A&M, and member of the Aggies' NAIGC gymnastics program, arrives on The Farm after serving a ninth-month stint as Men's Gymnastics Program Director at Extreme Texas Gymnastics.
Before his time there, Hernandez-Ojeda traveled the world in two different three-month stints on an international coaching expedition, learning elite gymnastics development from world-renowned coaches, judges, and athletes.
Hernandez-Ojeda also spent time as an assistant coach in Cypress Academy, working closely with former Stanford gymnasts Brody Malone, Akash Modi, and Brandon Briones in their USA gymnastics preparations.
Soukup, a 2017 graduate from the Minnesota men's gymnastics program, joins the Stanford staff after serving in various coaching roles at the club level for the season seven years.
The San Antonio, Texas native most recently spent time as a Competitive Team Coach at Omega Gymnastics (2022-24) in Beaverton, Oregon. Soukup's previous stops also include Alamo Gymnastics (2019-22) in San Antonio, Texas, and Classic Gymnastics (2017-19) in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
During his time at Minnesota, the Golden Gophers finished in the top ten at the NCAA Championships in each of Soukup's four seasons on the roster (2014-17), including a fifth-place finish in 2017. A still rings specialist, Soukup was a 2017 Big Ten Sportsmanship award honoree and a three-time letterwinner from 2015-17.
