Cardinal Ready to PlayForHer

Stanford hosts the annual Stanford Intercollegiate this weekend

  • The annual Stanford Intercollegiate, hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, takes place this weekend at Stanford Golf Course on Oct. 18-20.
  • Stanford Golf Course plays at 6,269 yards and is a par-71.
  • The third-ranked Stanford women’s golf team is unbeaten on the young season, with wins in the 2024 Big Match, a trio of wins at the NB3 Collegiate Match Play, and a team win at The Molly Invitational.
  • One of Stanford’s match play wins last week in New Mexico came against No. 2 Texas. The Cardinal won 3-2, winning two matches outright and tying in two others.
  • This marks the second tournament of the season for the Cardinal, with a win in The Molly Invitational in Seaside to open the season. Stanford won by 18 strokes Paula Martin Sampedro tied for first for her first collegiate win.
  • Six of Stanford’s seven golfers in The Molly field landed inside the top-20, including all four freshmen.
  • In the first women's golf rankings of the season by Clippd, Stanford checks in third overall, trailing only Arkansas and South Carolina.
  • Going back to the 2024 postseason, Stanford has won four consecutive tournaments.
  • In the 2023 installment of the Stanford Intercollegiate, the Cardinal finished in a tie for third, trailing Northwestern (second) and USC (first). It snapped a streak of two Intercollegiate wins in a row for Stanford.
  • Stanford’s lineup for this year’s Intercollegiate is: Paula Martin Sampedro, Andrea Revuelta, Meja Ortengren, Kelly Xu, and Megha Ganne. Leigh Chien, Caroline Sturdza, and Nora Sundberg will all be competing individually.
  • The Stanford Intercollegiate is once again supporting PlayForHer as part of an initiative to help raise funds in support of breast cancer research.
  • This year’s tournament is being dedicated to Arizona State Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye and her late sister, Heather Farr. Heather was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 23 and lost her battle five years later.
  • Supporters can help raise money by pledging to sponsor each birdie your favorite team makes, or even better, the entire field. In 2023, there were 763 total birdies made, and on average, each team made 40 birdies. The team with the most birdies will receive an award for helping make an impact through the game of golf.
