EVANSON, Ill. – Taking the field for its penultimate road and non-conference game of the season, Stanford field hockey fell at No. 2 Northwestern, 7-0. The Cardinal moves to 5-8 this season with the result.
Daisy Ford made nine saves between the posts – all in the first half – while Anya Jackson added three in just over 27 minutes of action. Allison Kuzyk led the offense with four shots, including two on goal, while the Cardinal had five penalty corners in the game.
“It was not our best hockey today,” said head coach Roz Ellis. “The message after the game was we are in fact better than what we displayed and we have a goal this season that is still in our reach. Northwestern is a fantastic team, they are a national championship-caliber team."
The Stanford defense got off to a strong start with four consecutive penalty corner defenses in the first nine minutes, but the Wildcats broke through for the opener in the 12th minute. Ford made five saves in the first quarter and four in the second, but Northwestern led at the half, 3-0.
The Cardinal offense tallied six of its seven shots in the second half and had five penalty corner opportunities, but the Wildcat defense was able to hold Stanford off the scoreboard.
Stanford is 7-15 all-time against Northwestern dating back to the first meeting in 1981.
