Match Play Returns in New Mexico

Stanford set to compete in inaugural NB3 Collegiate Match Play

  • Top-ranked Stanford women’s golf returns to match play this week in the first-ever NB3 Collegiate Match Play at Twin Warriors Golf Course in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
  • Golf Channel will be broadcasting live from Twin Warriors beginning at 2:30 pm PT on Tuesday and 1:30 pm PT on Wednesday.
  • This four-team event will feature both the men’s and women’s programs from Stanford, New Mexico, New Mexico State, and Texas.
  • The NB3 Collegiate Match Play format will be a round robin match play. Each team will play 36 holes on Tuesday and the final 18 holes on Wednesday. Stanford faces New Mexico and New Mexico State on Tuesday, and Texas on Wednesday.
  • In the preseason Golf Channel rankings, Texas was ranked second in the country, trailing only Stanford.
  • The men and women have already paired up once this season, with the Cardinal beating California in the annual Big Match 4-3 on Sept. 26.
  • Most recently, Stanford women’s golf cruised through The Molly Intercollegiate on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, winning the tournament by 18 strokes. It is the fourth consecutive tournament win for the Card dating back to last postseason.
  • Paula Martin Sampedro won her first collegiate tournament at The Molly. She earned a share of first place by knocking down birdie putts on her final two holes, erasing a two-stroke deficit to tie for the lead.
  • Stanford put seven golfers into The Molly field and six of them finished inside the top-20, with four landing the top-10. All four that finished in the top-10 are underclassmen, with three of them being freshmen competing in their first tournaments.
  • October is the final month of fall competition for the Cardinal, with a bulk of its events taking place this month: the NB3 Collegiate, Stanford Intercollegiate and Nanea Invitational.
  • Stanford’s lineup is as follows: Paula Martin Sampedro, Meja Örtengren, Kelly Xu, Leigh Chien, Megha Ganne, Andrea Revuelta (alternate).
