Stanford Bests the Bruins

Caroline Bricker wins three events to lead Cardinal to 188-111 win over UCLA

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 3 Stanford opened up the spring season with a commanding victory on Friday afternoon, defeating No. 24 UCLA by a score of 188-111. The Cardinal won 13 of the 16 events in the meet.

Caroline Bricker continued her exceptional sophomore campaign, leading Stanford with a trio of race wins on the day. Her performance was highlighted by a 1:52.21 time in the 200 fly, giving her the fifth-fastest swim in program history in that event.

Bricker now has a "Stanford Top-10" time in five different events, joining Lucy Bell for the second-most among active Cardinal swimmers. The Colorado Springs, Colo. native also earned race wins in the 200 back (1:54.32) and 200 IM (1:54.19).

Freshman Bailey O'Regan shaved ten seconds off her previous best to claim the 1000 free title, touching the wall first with a time of 9:41.59. Aurora Roghair followed her up with a race win in the 200 free, clocking a time of 1:52.21.

Stanford continued its success in the sprint freestyle events as Lucy Thomas (22.34) and Gigi Johnson (48.25) picked up wins in the 50 and 100 free, respectively, while Torri Huske tallied a win in the 200 breast with a mark of 2:08.82.

Kayla Wilson claimed an event title in the 500 free after a 4:44.17 swim, and Lillie Nordmann became the seventh different individual winner for Stanford with a race-winning time of 52.11 in the 100 fly.

On the diving towers, Maria Papworth scored a 298.65 to win the 1-meter, while Anna Lemkin (308.05) and Lauren Burch (244.70) finished second and third in the 3-meter dive. Diving scores for the meet were pulled from the preliminary results from the Cal Diving Invitational.

The Cardinal group of Huske, Nordmann, Natalie Mannion, and Sophie Duncan closed out the meet with a 1:30.40 time to win the 200 free relay, while UCLA earned the race win in the 200 medley relay.

Stanford returns to action on Jan. 18 against No. 18 USC, which will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra at noon PT.
