STANFORD, Calif. — For the first time in program history, Stanford women’s golf has earned a monthly award from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Meja Örtengren has been named the ACC Co-Golfer of the Month, as announced by the conference on Friday morning.
Örtengren enjoyed a stellar February as the spring season got underway for the Cardinal. She became the first freshman to win a tournament at Stanford since Rose Zhang by winning the 2025 San Diego State Classic by eight strokes, which is believed to be the largest margin of victory in program history.
Not only did she cruise to a win, she made more program history along the way. Her second round featured 10 birdies and a 10-under 62, which is tied with Mariah Stackhouse for the most strokes under par in a single round. On a national level, Örtengren’s 62 is tied for the eighth-best round in NCAA history, and the best since 2023.
Örtengren shot 68-62-71-201 en route to the victory, the lowest three-round score by a Cardinal since Megha Ganne in her 2023 Carmel Cup win. She also became the third Stanford golfer to win this season, joining Ganne and Paula Martin Sampedro.
Sharing the award with Örtengren is Lottie Woad of Florida State, who tied for the individual championship at the Moon Invitational. Woad is the reigning ACC Golfer of the Year.
The most recent Cardinal to win an in-season conference award was Martin Sampedro, who was named Pac-12 Golfer of the Week on October 17, 2023.
The calendar turns to March and brings the Juli Inkster Invitational to Meadow Club in Fairfax. The annual tournament is hosted by San Jose State and San Francisco and begins with two rounds of stroke play on Monday, March 3 and concludes with one more round of stroke play on March 4. Stanford won the team championship last year in a rain-soaked event that saw the final round canceled near its conclusion.
