ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Alyssa Jones reached 6-1 ¼ in the high jump on Friday – the highest jump by a Stanford woman in 38 years.
Jones, a Stanford junior, made her season high jump debut at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. Her jump of 1.86 meters is second only to Stanford Hall of Famer Lisa Bernhagen Ramos, who jumped a school absolute record of 6-5 ½ (1.97) indoors in 1987, the same year she won the NCAA indoor championship.
Jones, a four-time top-four NCAA placer in the long jump, exceeded her best of 6-0 3/4 (1.84), which she achieved in 2020 and 2024.
Jones placed third in the competition, with Texas Tech’s Temitope Adeshina taking the honors at 6-3 ½ (1.92). Jones opened at 5-8 (1.73) and had first-attempt misses at 5-10 (1.78) and 6-0 (1.83). However, Jones cleared 6-1 ¼ on her first try before taking three attempts at 6-2 ¼ (1.89).
Before this weekend, Jones’ 1.86 would have placed her in a tie for sixth nationally this season. The top 16 advance to the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14-15 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Eighteen Cardinal competed Friday, on the first of two days at the Albuquerque Convention Center, with 13 setting season bests. There were four season-bests each in the men’s and women’s 200.
Sophomore Zachary Ryan ran 21.57 in the unseeded section of the 200, a collegiate best that moves him from No. 10 to No. 8 on Stanford’s all-time indoor list.
Sage Hinton had Stanford fastest 200 time among the women, with a 24.26. And freshman Ryce Reynolds set a 200 personal best of 21.83 in the men’s competition.
