BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 2 Stanford completed a sweep of its three matches at the Midwest Invite, capping the weekend with a 14-8 victory over No. 16 Michigan on Sunday morning.
Ryann Neushul led the way with four goals on five shot attempts while also distributing three assists. Neushul, who finished the tournament with seven goals and leads the team with 17 overall, increased her career total to 185 and moved past Annika Dries (183) for ninth in program history.
Jewel Roemer added a hat trick to go along with three assists while Juliette Dhalluin, Jenna Flynn and Maggie Hawkins all registered multi-goal games.
The Cardinal has scored at least 12 goals while allowing eight scores or fewer in all seven games this season.
Stanford jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter, continuing its recent string of hot offensive starts.
The action evened out in the second period, with Neushul’s goal at the 5:14 mark accounting for the only scoring and providing Stanford with a 6-2 halftime lead.
Michigan closed to within 6-4 in the third period before Stanford answered with three consecutive goals to regain control.
Leading 9-6 entering the final eight minutes, Stanford’s offense came alive again with five goals to ice the game.
Christine Carpenter was solid in goal, making four saves.
Stanford returns to action on Feb. 21-23, with an appearance in the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
