Pregame Playlist: Lillie Nordmann

Every athlete has a go-to playlist that they listen to before they take the field, step on the court, or dive into the pool. In Pregame Playlist we bring Stanford student-athletes' playlists to you!

Before every game, match, or meet every athlete has a go-to playlist that they listen to before to get themselves ready for action. In Pregame Playlist we hear what student-athletes' playlists mean to them! Today, lets talk to Lillie Nordmann, who shares what makes their playlist and pre match routine so special ahead of NCAA Championships.

GoStanford.com: What’s your favorite song on this playlist and why?

Lillie Nordmann: My favorite song on this playlist is Headlines by Drake. The opening instrumental gets me hyped up and ready to race.

GS: Who are your favorite artists these days?

LN: My current favorite artists are Remi Wolf, Dominic Fike, Tate McRae, Still Woozy, and SZA.

GS: What about this playlist gets you ready for competition?

LN: I listen to this playlist on the car ride over to the venue and while I am doing my dynamic warmup. The beats and lyrics get me pumped up and give me confidence.

GS: How would you describe your music taste in general?

LN: I mainly listen to alternative/indie pop music. I minored in Spanish, so I love listening to Latin pop as well.

GS: Does this playlist different from what you listen to normally? If so, how come?

LN: My pre-practice/pre-meet playlist is heavily rap music, filled with artists like Drake and Flo Milli. However, I typically listen to more chill music in my downtime or while I am doing homework.

GS: Any unique stories behind what these songs meant to you or your team?

LN: My teammate Kayla Wilson and I always request Lil Wayne radio during 200 free group! At ACCs we had a pre-race dance party before the 400 free relay to keep things fun and loose.

GS: How does your music taste compare to the rest of your team’s?

LN: This may come as a surprise since I am from Texas, but I am not a huge country music fan. My team loves country music, and our Wednesday morning practices are designated for country. Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams are also popular on my team!

GS: Describe your relationship with music, and how/if that relates to your sport.

LN: I love listening to music and discovering new songs. Music has always been a big part of my life, and I have so many memories associated with different songs. Although we cannot hear the music while we are swimming, the vibes on deck really set the tone for practice. Our coach, Greg Meehan, is very passionate about music. Every Wednesday afternoon is "Music Education Wednesday" where he'll teach us about a different artist, ranging from U2 to Etta James, and play their songs during practice.
