LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 1 Stanford bounced back from its only loss of the season with a defensive-minded 11-3 victory at Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon.

Stanford (16-1, 2-1 MPSF) came away with a split of its SoCal road swing, 24 hours after dropping a hard-fought 12-11 decision to No. 2 USC in Los Angeles.

The Cardinal’s defense was suffocating throughout the game and established tempo early. Long Beach State was held scoreless until the 3:03 mark of the third quarter. The 49ers were also 3-of-26 shooting overall and limited to a 1-of-12 clip on the power play.

Juliette Dhalluin and Jewel Roemer led the way with two goals apiece for the Cardinal, which also maintained its streak of scoring at least 10 goals in every game this season. Ryann Neushul contributed a team-high three assists.

Stanford gradually built a 5-0 lead by halftime, with Maggie Hawkins’ goal with 15 seconds left before intermission capping the first-half scoring.

Leading 7-0, Stanford did not surrender its first goal until the 3:03 mark of the third quarter. The Beach added another score less than two minutes later.

The Cardinal then ripped off three consecutive goals in the fourth quarter to ice the win.

Christine Carpenter finished with seven saves before giving way to Jackie King, who played the final 2:38 and made one stop.

Stanford returns to Avery Aquatic Center on Saturday, April 5, hosting UCLA at 1 p.m.
