LOS ANGELES – Powered by Theo Snoey and Moses Wagner, No. 13 Stanford upset No. 3 USC for a second straight night, defeating the Trojans 27-25, 25-21, 20-25, 31-19, Saturday, at the Galen Center.
A solo block by freshman Kaumana Carreira on match point sealed the fifth straight win for the Cardinal over the Trojans.
Stanford (11-12, 4-6 MPSF) out hit USC (19-5, 7-3 MPSF) .336 to .282 and held a 48-40 advantage in digs. The Cardinal held a 4-3 edge in aces and both teams recorded 10.5 blocks.
Snoey turned in a career-best 26 kills on .383 hitting and a season-high 11 digs for his first double-double of the season. The junior averaged 5.67 kills on .358 hitting, 1.56 digs and 5.94 points per set in the two match at USC.
Wagner notched 22 kills on a .395 attack percentage, seven digs, four blocks and an ace. His two-match averages against the Trojans include 5.22 kills on .430 hitting, 1.67 digs, 0.89 blocks and 5.83 points per set.
Setter Theoren Brouillette posted a double-double for the second straight night, totaling 55 assists and 12 digs. The junior also had three blocks, two kills and an ace. Freshman libero Evan Porter anchored the Cardinal defense with 11 digs and three assists.
Sophomore Nate Clinton contributed seven kills, six digs and two blocks. Carreira hit .500 with seven kills on 12 swings with just one miscue to go with five blocks, including two solo. Freshman middle blocker Reed Wainwright chipped in with three blocks, a kill and an ace.
Stanford returns to The Farm next week to close out the regular season against No. 11 Grand Canyon on Thursday and Friday in Maples Pavilion.
