No. 1 Stanford produced a clutch 14-12 win over No. 4 UCLA

STANFORD, Calif. – Ryann Neushul’s sixth hat trick of the season powered No. 1 Stanford to a 14-12 victory over No. 4 UCLA on Saturday afternoon at Avery Aquatic Center.

Stanford (17-1, 3-1 MPSF) picked up its second win against UCLA (16-4, 4-1 MPSF), which the Cardinal also defeated 14-4 back on Feb. 22 in game that featured its largest margin of victory against the Bruins in school history.

Remaining unbeaten in four matches at home, Stanford maintained its streak of scoring at least 10 goals in every game this season. The Cardinal received goals from nine different players, with Kamryn Barone, Jenna Flynn and Jewel Roemer scoring two goals apiece. Neushul’s three goals came on eight shot attempts while also adding five assists.

The Cardinal converted all three of its power play opportunities while the Bruins were limited to a 1-of-12 mark.

UCLA held a 3-0 lead deep into the first period before Stanford responded with consecutive goals from Barone, Juliette Dhalluin and Flynn over the final 2:32.

Tied 4-4, the Cardinal again ripped off three in a row to take its largest lead of the first half at 7-4 following a goal from Eleanor Facey with 2:33 before halftime.

Neushul, who ranks eighth all-time with 210 career goals on The Farm, completed her hat trick at the 1:11 mark of the third period, extending Stanford’s lead to 11-7.

Roemer’s second goal midway through the final stanza gave the Cardinal its largest lead at 13-8.

Christine Carpenter finished with six saves and has now totaled 100 in her first full season in goal.

Stanford returns to action on Saturday, April 12, hosting Indiana at 1 p.m. The Cardinal will honor Facey, Neushul, Alissa Pascual, Roemer and Sophia Sanders in a postgame Senior Day ceremony.
