STANFORD, Calif. – Six members of the Cardinal landed on NFCA All-West Region teams today, including three first team selections. River Mahler, Emily Jones and Kyra Chan picked up first team honors, while Alyssa Houston, Taryn Kern and Jade Berry landed on the second team.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the NFCA's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2025 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
Mahler earns a spot on the first team for the second time in her career, after landing on the team as a freshman in 2023. The junior leads the Cardinal in batting average (.434) and hits (72), and sits third in RBI with 51. Mahler’s hit 10 home runs in 50 games this season, after not hitting one in her first two seasons on The Farm. Mahler was also named an All-ACC first team selection last week.
Jones joined Mahler in experiencing a power surge at the plate in 2025, hitting nine home runs while picking up 70 hits and a .429 batting average. The hit total and average are both the second-best on the team.
Chan completes the trio of first team selections, third on the team with a .411 average. The junior is tied for the team lead with 58 RBI, thanks to clutch hitting all season. Chan leads the team in batting average with runners on (.471), runners in scoring position (.484) and two-out RBI (26).
Tied with Chan for the RBI lead is Berry, who was named to the second team. The 58 RBI total is tied for the third-most in a season in program history. Berry’s hit .353 on the season, and is second on the team with 13 homers.
Houston is the Cardinal’s lone pitcher on the All-Region list, after posting a 14-2 record with a 3.39 ERA. The sophomore has struck out 141 in 103.1 innings pitched, leading the team in strikeouts, opposing batting average (.194) and saves (4).
Rounding out the representatives is Kern, leading the team in home runs (19) and slugging percentage (.809). The home run total is the 19th-best in the country, and second-most in the ACC. Kern leads the team in runs scored (59) and total bases (123).
The Cardinal takes on Binghamton tomorrow in the first game of the Eugene Regional. The NCAA tournament bout starts at 2:00 p.m. PT, and can be streamed on ESPN+.
