Men’s Basketball Signs Giltay

Giltay led FIBA U18 Eurobasket in 2024 in blocked shots

STANFORD, Calif. – Continuing to add to a strong incoming class of student-athletes, Kyle Smith, the Anne and Tony Joseph Director of Men’s Basketball, has announced the signing of Oskar Giltay (Bilzen, Belgium).

“We are very fortunate that Oskar has decided to come to Stanford,” said Smith. “He has been an emerging talent in his age group in Europe, and he is a hard charging frontline big who will compete on the glass and protect the rim at a high level in the ACC.”

One of the most promising prospects in Belgium, Giltay averaged 10.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game at FIBA U18 Eurobasket while leading the tournament with 3.1 blocks per game and ranking eighth with 2.7 offensive rebounds per game. The 6-10 big man shot 56 percent from the floor and 82.4 percent at the free throw line. He previously averaged 6.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game at the 2022 FIBA U16 European Championships in Division B, helping Belgium to a bronze medal.

“Oskar has a motor and skill set that will be suited for our skillful and dynamic backcourt,” continued Smith. “Oskar is well versed as pick and roll lob threat as well as a pick and pop post who can play on the perimeter in our five-out schemes. He pairs well with Kristers to form a great foundation for our future.

A tremendous rim protector and rebounder, Giltay has averaged 6.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game this season for Hubo Limburg United in the BNXT League, the top division in Belgium and the Netherlands. Giltay’s performances has grown over the course of the season, and he helped lead the organization to the semifinals of the Belgian national playoffs.

Giltay was honored as the BNXT Young Player of the Month for January after posting averages of 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game on 58 percent shooting.

“The educational opportunity was a difference maker for Oskar and his parents, as he chose Stanford over other power conference opportunities,” Smith finished. “We are blessed to have Oskar on the Farm.”
