WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – No. 1 Stanford women’s rowing advanced all three boats to their respective Grand Finals on Saturday at the NCAA Championships at Mercer Lake, posting two first-place finishes and one second-place result in the AB semifinals.
Despite rainy weather and choppy, windy conditions, Stanford was the only program to notch two semifinal victories. This marks the sixth consecutive season all three Cardinal boats have reached the Grand Finals.
The varsity eight picked up where it left off Friday, dominating its semifinal with a 4.134-second win over second-place Texas. Stanford clocked the fastest time across both semifinals at 6:03.543, ahead of Texas (6:07.677), Washington (6:10.311), Rutgers (6:13.429), Princeton (6:15.781), and Michigan (6:21.641).
Stanford’s second varsity eight followed with an even more commanding performance, winning its semifinal by 5.124 seconds. The Cardinal crossed in 6:12.600, ahead of Texas (6:17.724), Virginia (6:20.084), Tennessee (6:21.368), California (6:22.656), and Syracuse (6:38.244).
In the varsity four, Stanford secured a second-place finish after a late push by Texas surged the Longhorns to the win in the final 500 meters. Texas won the race in 6:57.731, with Stanford close behind at 6:59.939. Tennessee (7:04.461) claimed the final spot in Sunday’s Grand Final, followed by Syracuse (7:04.799), Harvard (7:09.601), and Princeton (7:13.247).
Stanford faces its final challenge of the season in Sunday’s Grand Finals. Only four programs — Stanford, Texas, Washington, and Yale — advanced all three boats to the championship races.
The varsity four will race Texas, Tennessee, Washington, Yale, and Rutgers at 6:36 a.m. PT. The second varsity eight will follow at 7:00 a.m. PT against Princeton, Washington, Yale, Texas, and Virginia. The varsity eight final, which concludes the 2025 season, begins at 7:24 a.m. PT and features Stanford, Texas, Washington, Yale, Tennessee, and Brown.
Each Grand Final crowns a national champion in its boat class, while the overall team title will be awarded to the program with the highest cumulative point total. First-place finishes in the Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight, and Varsity Eight are worth 22, 44, and 66 points, respectively. All races will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
