STANFORD, Calif. – Nunu Agara scored 24 points and didn’t miss from the floor to lead Stanford to a 98-43 win over visiting Lehigh on Sunday afternoon.
Agara poured in her 24 on a perfect 10-of-10 shooting, tying the school record for single-game field goal percentage (min. 10 attempts). Just last year, Elena Bosgana was 10-of-10 from the floor in a win over UC San Diego on Nov. 29. Kim Kupferer was 11-of-11 from the floor in a game against Pacific on Jan. 24, 1981.
The efficiency wasn’t limited to the Stanford junior. Lara Somfai scored 15 and Hailee Swain 12 and both were 6-of-8 from the floor. Mary Ashley Stevenson poured in 10 on 4-of-6 shooting and Carly Amborn hit her two shots, both 3-pointers, and all four of her free throws to score 10. Amborn has not missed once this season, going 5-of-5 from the floor, all 3-pointers, and 6-of-6 at the line.
As a team, the Cardinal shot 66.7 percent from the floor (38-of-57), the third-best mark in program history. Stanford shot 67.3 percent against Oregon State on Feb. 20, 2010, and 67.2 percent against Eastern Michigan on Dec. 29, 1989. Stanford’s field goal percentage is the second-best in the NCAA this year against a DI opponent. LSU shot 67.6 percent (50-of-74) against Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 6.
The Cardinal was also a perfect 15-for-15 at the foul line, tying a program record for makes without a miss, which it achieved on Jan. 30 last season against Pittsburgh.
Stanford made its first eight shots and 11 of its first 12. It only missed twice in a first quarter in which it shot 85.7 percent (12-of-14). It opened the game on an 11-0 run and never looked back.
Seventeenth in the nation in field goal percentage defense coming in, the Cardinal limited Lehigh to 30.2 percent shooting (15-of-53). Stanford had more steals, 10, than turnovers, nine.
Stanford’s 98 points and 55-point margin of victory were both its best since last year’s 107-43 season-opening win over Le Moyne.
Stanford next heads to Las Vegas for the Resorts World Classic after Thanksgiving. The Cardinal will play FGCU on Friday, Nov. 28 and Colorado State on Saturday, Nov. 29. Both games tip at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on FloCollege.
