STANFORD, Calif. — No. 4 Stanford continued its perfect start to the season, dispatching the San Diego State Aztecs 4-1 on Thursday.
With the win, the Cardinal has won 26 consecutive matchups on The Farm and continues its perfect record against the Aztecs with its 14th win in the series.
Stanford (1-0, 0-0 ACC) snatched the doubles point with a pair of wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 slots. Jagger Leach and Mark Krupkin nabbed the opening win via a 6-2 decision at the No. 2 slot while Alex Razeghi and Hudson Rivera combined for the win at the No. 1 position with an extra set win, 7-5.
Leach continued his dominance on Thursday in singles with a straight-set win at the No. 4 position over SDSU’s Lars Johann, 6-4, 6-2 before the Aztecs earned their first point of the match at No. 6 singles.
The Cardinal, though, took the remaining two matches to clinch with wins in order at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. No. 67 Alex Chang used a decisive second set to down Finn Willman, 7-6, 6-0, to put Stanford on the brink of victory before Alex Razeghi secured the perfect start for Stanford, winning his service game to clinch the match for the Cardinal, 7-5, 6-4.
Hudson Rivera and Mark Krupkin battled hard on the afternoon as both matches went unfinished following the Stanford clinch.
The Cardinal is back in action next weekend for the ITA Kickoff Weekend, hosting Utah on Friday, January 23 before taking on Oregon or Rice on Saturday, January 24. Stanford's match against the Utes on Friday is slated for 10 a.m.
