Spring Begins With Match Play Bout

Stanford begins 2026 slate with match against Texas A&M

STANFORD, Calif. — Ringing in the new year, Stanford men’s golf is back in action for the first time in three months, heading down to Indian Wells, Calif. for a match-play bout against Texas A&M on Sunday, January 25.

THE COURSE » The Vintage Club serves as the setting for this season’s match play bout as the Cardinal and Aggies will play on one of two of the best courses that Indian Wells has to offer. The club’s par-72, 7,138 yard Mountain Course hosts a “superb layout” that “strategically balances playability and challenge with its distinct ‘Fazio’ bunkering, bent grass greens, lush fairways and tees” that display the beauty of the Coachella Valley.

Meanwhile, the club’s Desert Course plays as a 6,515-yard, par-72 track that ranks as one of the three greatest courses built in the last 20 years according to the American Society of Golf Course Architects. The Desert Course boasts a plethora of “verdant Palo Verde trees, desert cacti and wildflowers,” and other features that make it the perfect setting for any January golfing excursion.

THE FIELD » This year’s matchup consists of a Top-40 battle as the No. 35 Cardinal take on the No. 31 Aggies for the second time. Texas A&M boasts two golfers ranked inside the top-100 with No. 29 Aaron Pounds and No. 89 Wheaton Ennis while Stanford’s TK Chantananuwat and Jay Leng enter the Sunday shootout ranked at No. 90 and No. 109, respectively.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT » The one day, 18-hole tournament will be played in the match play style format with eight total points up for grabs.
