Anteaters Outlast Card

Stanford drops to 1-2 in five-set matches

IRVINE, Calif. – Despite a double-double from Alex Rottman, No. 16 Stanford fell in five sets at No. 5 UC Irvine, 19-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19, 8-15, Saturday, at the Bren Events Center.

Rottman recorded a career-high 19 kills on .455 hitting and matched his career-best with 10 digs for his second double-double of the season. The outside hitter also posted a career-high seven blocks and an ace.

Stanford (1-6) hit .207 as a team and out blocked the Anteaters (9-0) with a season-high 13.0 to 10.5. The Cardinal also held a 46-43 advantage in digs and a 4-3 edge in aces.

Setter Theoren Brouillette dished out 35 assists and had eight digs, two blocks and a kill. Sophomores Evan Porter and Kai Schmitt  shared time at libero. Porter racked up a team and season-high 12 digs and two assists, while Schmitt had three digs and four assists.

Outside hitter Theo Snoey registered 13 kills, five digs, two assists and a block. Opposite Moses Wagner chipped in with 12 kills, five digs, six blocks and two aces.

Middle blocker Reed Wainwright notched six blocks, while sophomore Kaumana Carreira had four blocks, two kills and two digs. Ryan DuRoss had an ace, coming off the bench in four of the five sets.

UC Irvine had four players register double-digit kills, led by William D’Arcy with 16. Andon Kiriakou had a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs. Andrej Jokanovic and Trevor Clark finished with 12 kills apiece.

Stanford returns to The Farm on Friday to open MPSF play against Jessup. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion.
