No. 1 Stanford breezed to a 15-6 win over host No. 11 UC Irvine on Friday

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 1 Stanford breezed to a 15-6 win over host No. 11 UC Irvine on Friday afternoon in its opening round game of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.

Jenna Flynn continued her hot start with a game-high four goals while Ella Woodhead matched a career high with a hat trick as Stanford (4-0, 0-0 MPSF) took an early lead and never looked back.

Eight different players scored a goal for the Cardinal, which had produced at least 20 goals in each of its first three contests.

Flynn, who entered the game leading Stanford with 12 goals, also contributed four assists while firing off seven shot attempts.

Kamryn Barone and Juliette Dhalluin added multi-goal games for the Cardinal, which scored four goals on the power play while limiting UC Irvine (3-8, 0-0 Big West) to 22.2 percent shooting.

Flynn scored twice in the first period as Stanford built a 5-1 lead through the first eight minutes. She scored again in the second quarter before Dhalluin’s goal one minute before halftime gave the Cardinal a 7-2 advantage.

Woodhead’s second goal put the Cardinal into double digits at 10-3 with 5:21 remaining in the third stanza.

Lucy Haaland-Ford scored her first career goal with 2:53 left in the fourth period.

Christine Carpenter played the first two quarters in net while Jackie King closed out the game. Both goalies made six saves.

Stanford will next face the winner of California/Hawai’i in the semifinals on Saturday at 3 p.m.
