Cardinal Falls 4-3 To Ohio State

No. 4 Stanford fell just short against No. 2 Ohio State, 4-3

DALLAS – No. 4 Stanford fell just short in knocking off No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, falling 4-3 to the Buckeyes.

Stanford (7-2, 0-0 ACC) captured the doubles point and led 3-1 overall before Ohio State (9-0, 0-0 Big Ten) rallied back to avoid its first loss.

The Cardinal, which outlasted Arizona State 4-3 on Friday to open tournament play, made an immediate statement after securing a 1-0 lead after doubles.

Even with Ohio State boasting three doubles teams ranked in the top-10, Stanford firmly took control. Mark Krupkin and Hudson Rivera delivered a 6-3 victory on court three before Alex Chang and Alex Razeghi provided the clincher with a 7-6 (5) triumph on the top court.

After the Buckeyes collected the first singles point to even the match at 1-1, the Cardinal responded with a pair of victories. Jagger Leach prevailed 7-6 (4), 6-3 at the No. 3 spot before Razeghi’s 7-5, 7-5 win at the No. 4 spot put Stanford on the brink of an upset.

Ohio State proceeded to rattle off three consecutive wins, closing it out when Aidan Kim outlasted Rivera 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 1 position.

Stanford next faces either Virginia or Mississippi State in its next match.
