STANFORD, Calif. – Fueled by three event wins, Stanford captured its fifth straight MPSF Championship title on Sunday afternoon at Avery Aquatic Center.
The Cardinal, which has claimed the conference crown in all five years since the MPSF started sponsoring the sport in 2022, produced an impressive performance in the first of three straight meets on The Farm to close out the year.
Stanford totaled 101 points in the conference meet, with Incarnate Word (89) checking in as the runner-up while Wheaton (70) took third and Texas Woman’s University (60) placed fourth.
Saturday’s first day of competition featured Audrey Kwon and Calista Liu capturing the duet title, extending Stanford’s streak of winning the event for a fifth straight season. Kwon and Liu paced the field with a score of 241.0250 while Megumi Field and Dalia Ovadia made it a 1-2 Cardinal finish with a scored of 228.1988 as the runner-up.
Stanford continued its dominance into Sunday, as Field, Ovadia and Karen Xue won the trio with a score of 224.8996 points to become the Cardinal’s fifth consecutive MPSF champion. Yara Elian, Kwon and Liu placed third with a score of 215.6959 points.
The Cardinal closed out the tournament by securing the top two spots in the team competition. First-place honors went to Elisa Brunel, Yujin Chang, Emily Ding, Atira O’Neil, Manu Pindi, Simone Radom, Ella Rau and Yanna Hauck, achieving a score of 206.5058. Close behind was Stanford’s contingent of Miko Begossi, Ivy Davis, Elian, Field, Kwon, Liu, Ovadia and Xue with a score of 200.2033. Stanford has won the MPSF team title in four of the five seasons.
In the solo routine on Saturday, Morgan Woelfel achieved a 198.4000 while Incarnate Word’s Marloes Steenbeek claimed the event title.
The meet opened with the Tech competition, with Stanford’s superior depth on display as Elian (2nd, 79.1314), Rau (3rd, 76.5339), Ovadia (4th, 76.3602), Xue (5th, 75.2055) and Brunel (6th, 74.1441) checked in behind event winner Steenbeek (83.1038).
The Cardinal will host its Senior Day ceremony on Feb. 28, in conjunction with the Western Regionals meet.
Stanford concludes its season on March 27-28, hosting the U.S. Artistic Swimming Collegiate National Championships at Avery Aquatic Center for the first time since winning it all in front of its home crowd in 2021.
