SAN JOSE – Sienna Green was one of seven players with a multi-goal game for No. 1 Stanford, which overwhelmed No. 17 San Jose State 21-4 on Saturday afternoon in MPSF action.
Green matched a career high with four goals, as Stanford (8-0, 2-0 MPSF) showcased its superior depth on the way to reaching the 20-goal mark for the fourth time this season.
Serena Browne added a hat trick, one of seven different players who scored at least twice. The Cardinal produced 11 goal scorers overall, representing the fourth time this season in which at least 10 players found the net.
After alternating goals to open the contest, Ella Woodhead and Green scored back-to-back goals to close out the first period and Stanford never looked back.
The Cardinal defense, anchored by nine saves from Jackie King, was relentless and limited San Jose State (5-9, 0-3 MPSF) to only four goals on 23 shot attempts and an 0-for-8 clip on the power play.
Tied at 2-2, Stanford ripped off seven straight goals, culminating with Amber Nowaczek’s score at the 1:26 mark of the second quarter.
The offensive momentum continued into the third period, as Stanford outscored San Jose State 8-0 over that eight-minute stretch. Browne completed her hat trick with two goals in the opening minute before Kamryn Barone delivered back-to-back scores.
Sydney Lowell’s goal with 1:15 on the clock extended Stanford’s lead to 17-3.
Natalia Szczbera accounted for the Cardinal’s 20th tally of the game with 2:53 remaining before she added another less than 40 seconds later to close out the scoring.
Stanford next visits UCLA on Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m. The Cardinal defeated the Bruins 8-7 back on Feb. 15 in the first meeting of the season to capture the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
