DURHAM, N.C. – Earning a split in its first ACC road trip of the season, No. 12 Stanford men’s tennis earned a 4-2 victory over No. 50 Duke. Stanford improves to 8-4 this season and 1-1 in the ACC.
The victory was the 200th for Paul Goldstein, making him the second coach in program history to reach the milestone along with Dick Gould.
Despite the victory, the Blue Devils struck first in doubles with wins on courts one and three.
Stanford bounced back to claim the first result in singles, coming after taking five of the six first sets. Nico Godsick leveled the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory on court five, but Duke immediately regained the lead with a win on court six. Godsick finished the road trip with a 2-0 mark in singles play.
Hudson Rivera earned his first win of the season at No. 1 singles, downing opponent in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to level the match at 2-2. Jagger Leach put Stanford in front moments later, winning a second set tiebreaker, 7-3, to put Stanford in control.
Alex Razeghi clinched the match on court four, his third match clincher of the year, in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. Razeghi leads the team with 12 singles wins this season, including a 9-0 mark in dual action.
The Cardinal improves to 10-2 all-time against Duke and 3-0 as members of the ACC.
Stanford returns to action on Friday, March 6 against Virginia Tech at Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion. The first serves are set for 5:30 p.m.
