STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford completed a sweep of the MPSF Player of the Week awards for March 10, with Jenna Flynn and Lucy Haaland-Ford honored as the No. 1 Cardinal defeated No. 2 UCLA 10-9 in a crucial MPSF road victory.
Flynn was named MPSF/Delfina Player of the Week, contributing her seventh hat trick of the season, highlighted by the game-winning goal with 3:47 remaining in the fourth period. Flynn, who collected her fifth career MPSF weekly honor and second this season, added one assist, one steal and two earned exclusions. Flynn’s offensive presence constantly drew attention and allowed the Cardinal to execute its trademark balanced attack.
Haaland-Ford was tabbed the MPSF/S&R Newcomer of the Week, representing her first career honor. Haaland-Ford earned a key exclusion in the final 90 seconds of the fourth quarter and produced a field block to help preserve the win. She played lockdown defense throughout the contest, most notably in the final period when Stanford limited UCLA to one goal over the final eight minutes and none in the final 4:56.
Stanford returns to action on Sunday, March 22, hosting USC at 1 p.m. at Avery Aquatic Center.
