Clemson Trips Up Men’s Tennis

Men’s tennis returns home to the Bay Area for its final three ACC matches.

CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 22 Stanford was set back to close its four-game road trip, falling at No. 38 Clemson, 4-2. Stanford moves to 13-7 this season and 6-4 in the ACC.

Stanford fell behind early in doubles, despite a lead from Samir Banerjee and Jagger Leach on court three, as the Tigers put up victories in the top two positions.

Clemson pushed its lead to 2-0 with a win on court one, but Stanford responded with back-to-back victories to level the match at 2-2. First, Hudson Rivera finished off a 6-4, 6-2 win on court four for his 10th singles win of the season, and eighth in dual play. Nico Godsick continued his dominance in ACC action, winning his eighth straight battle in conference games, 6-3, 6-4. Godsick matched Rivera with his 10th singles win of the season.

Needing two singles matches to clinch, Clemson got the points it needed on courts two and five to clinch the result.

Meeting Clemson on the tennis court for the first time since 2000, Stanford drops to 7-1 in the all-time series.

Stanford returns home to Arrillaga Tennis Center on Friday, March 3 at 5:30 p.m. against No. 1 Wake Forest.
