Men’s Tennis Victorious vs. Virginia Tech

Stanford opened its ACC home slate with a conference triumph

STANFORD, Calif. – Returning home to Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion, No. 21 Stanford men’s tennis tallied a 4-1 victory over Virginia Tech. Stanford improves to 9-4 this season and 2-1 in the ACC.

The Cardinal struck early in doubles, taking a 1-0 lead after wins on courts one and two. The nation’s 12th-ranked duo of Alex Chang and Alex Razeghi scored a 6-1 win on court one for their team-leading 10th of the season as a pair. Nico Godsick and Jagger Leach clinched the advantage with a 7-5 win on court two.

Stanford claimed five of the six opening sets in singles play to remain in control of the match. Alex Razeghi picked up the first singles win on court four, 6-1, 6-3, moving the sophomore to a perfect 10-0 in dual play this season. Nico Godsick made it 3-0 on court five with a 7-5, 6-4 win, giving him a 3-0 start to ACC play. Virginia Tech pulled back a point on court six, taking the score to 3-1.

Alex Chang clinched the match on court two, battling for a 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory. The win is the 12th of the season for Chang, who improves to 6-2 in dual matches.

Stanford improves to 3-0 all-time against Virginia Tech, and 2-0 as members of the ACC.

The Cardinal remains at home for a matchup with No. 3 Virginia on Sunday, March 8. The first serves are set for noon.
