STANFORD, Calif. – Aided by two three-set clinching victories from sophomores Charlotta Bell and Logan Tusher, No. 2 Stanford topped both No. 6 Cal Poly and No. 7 California by matching scores of 3-2 on Friday at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium.
The Cardinal (32-3) has now matched its program's win record with 32 victories, set in both the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Friday’s matchup with Cal Poly was the Cardinal’s third 3-2 victory over the Mustangs in the last 13 days. Stanford took a 1-0 lead with a 21-11, 21-14 victory from juniors Ruby Sorra and Brooke Rockwell on court two, but Cal Poly countered with a 21-18, 19-21, 15-13 win on court four. Both teams added a second match point with straight-set victories: Redshirt freshman Elena Fisher and junior Chloe Hoffman bested Byers/Byrne 21-16, 21-14 on court five, while Connor/Inskeep topped senior Kelly Belardi and sophomore Avery Jackson 25-23, 21-9 on court one. The match came down to court three, where Bell and Tusher held off a comeback attempt from Perry/Adams to win with a 21-16, 20-22, 15-10 victory.
The Cardinal then faced No. 7 California for just the second time this season, earning their second 3-2 victory over their Bay Area rival in 2026. The Golden Bears tallied the first match point with a 23-21, 21-18 victory on court two, but the Cardinal quickly answered with a 21-18, 21-13 straight-set win from sophomore Indigo Clarke and junior Clara Stowell on court four. Fisher and Hoffman posted a 21-12, 21-15 win on court five to give Stanford a 2-1 lead, but minutes later, the Golden Bears countered with a 21-15, 21-12 win on court one. Bell and Tusher were once again pushed to the wire, but came back from a 19-21 first-set defeat to clinch their court with a 21-18 win in the second set and a 15-13 victory in the match-clinching third set.
Stanford wraps up the regular season Saturday, taking on Pepperdine and San Jose State at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. The Cardinal’s match against the Spartans will conclude with a senior day celebration honoring Line Andersson, Kelly Belardi, Phoenix Clarke, Daria Gusarova, Sophie Kubiak and Ashley Vincent.
