Hurdlers Headline Two-Meet Weekend

Four Cardinal set new career marks in the 400m hurdles

STANFORD, Calif. - Another action-packed weekend comes to a close for Stanford track & field, as the Cardinal wrapped up a pair of meets in Southern California on Saturday evening.

28 student-athletes appeared at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays, where the Cardinal hurdlers headlined with a handful of career marks.

Tess Stapleton continued her meteoric rise through the program ranks with a 56.82 in the elite section of the women’s 400m hurdles, moving to No. 2 in Stanford history. Stapleton, who competed in the event for the first time just last month, has already improved by nearly two seconds since her debut mark of 58.66 at the Cal Invitational.

Addie Pendergast (57.58) and Diane Richard (58.15) set new lifetime bests of their own in the invitational portion of the event, jumping to third and fifth in the "Stanford Top 10," respectively.

The men's elite division of the 400m saw Ryce Reynolds finish tenth with a time of 50.92, setting a new career mark to rank fourth in the Stanford record book.

Alyssa Jones was Stanford's lone event winner of the weekend, leading a talented long jump field with a 6.60m mark. The national runner-up in the indoor competition has now won two long jump titles this season. Jones also appeared in the high jump, finishing fifth with a 1.83m clearance.

Julia Lemmon impressed with a pair of career bests, finishing second in the shot put at 15.16 meters, along with a third-place effort in the discus with a 51.08m throw. Brandy Atuatasi placed second in the discus, finishing with a 51.65m mark.

Alaysia Oakes rounded out the podium finishers in Walnut with an 11.60 mark in the 100m dash, a new career-best for the Lynchburg, Va., native.

Meanwhile, the distance group competed eight miles north at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University.

The Men's 1500m elite race saw Zane Bergen and Leo Young each finish with a time of 3:38.05, with Bergen's effort being a new career-best and propelling him to No. 8 in the Stanford outdoor top 10.

Evan Noonan was also a new addition to the Cardinal record book, finishing as the runner-up in the invitational portion of the event with a 3:38.93, becoming Stanford's No. 10 performer all-time.

The Cardinal will return home for the regular season finale, playing host to the Payton Jordan Invitational on May 1 at Cobb Track & Angell Field.
